The Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joe brings the iconic cheesesteak together with the comforting messiness of a sloppy joe. The gooey melted cheese and saucy ground beef put a fun spin on this childhood favorite of mine.

Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes

Philly cheesesteak sloppy joes combine the flavors of a classic Philly cheesesteak with the comfort of a messy, delicious sloppy joe.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 1 small green bell pepper diced
  • 8 ounces mushrooms minced
  • 2 Tbsp ketchup
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp fresh ground black pepper
  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 8 ounces Provolone cheese slices
  • 6 large hamburger buns Brioche

Method
 

  1. Using a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain and set aside.
  2. In same skillet, melt butter. Add onion, peppers, mushrooms. Cook until soft.
  3. Stir in cooked ground beef.
  4. Mix in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  5. In bowl, mix cold beef broth and cornstarch. When combined, pour into skillet and stir.
  6. Continue to cook, stirring constantly until sauce is thick
  7. Mix in cheese. Stir until melted and combined.
  8. To Serve: toast buns and spoon sloppy joe mixture onto bottom half of the bun.

Notes

Buns: You can use any style of bun you prefer. Hoagie buns are another fun option!
